Examining Ourselves

Psalms 139:23-24.

23 Search me, O God and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you. Lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Inviting God to Search Our Lives

We often shy away from the idea of someone searching our lives. We may have things that we don't want anyone else to see or know about. We may not want to face the reality of our own flaws and imperfections. But in Psalms 139:23-24, David invites God to search his life. He asks God to know his heart, test him, and point out anything that offends Him. He knows that God is always searching and he wants to be at the forefront of that search.

Human Nature vs. David's Invitation

As human beings, we have a tendency to watch other people. We may look at our neighbor and think, "Wow, they really need to work on their life." Or we may look at a co-worker and think, "They're such a hypocrite." But David reminds us that God is not just searching others, He's searching us too. And it's important that we invite Him to do so.

Reflecting and Inviting God's Search

When we invite God to search our lives, we're opening ourselves up to the possibility of change and growth. We're acknowledging that we have flaws and imperfections and that we need God's guidance to overcome them. It's not easy to admit that we need help, but it's the first step towards a deeper relationship with God.

A Continuous Search Process

It's also important to remember that inviting God to search our lives is not a one-time event. It's a continuous process, and we should make it a daily practice. We should be constantly checking in with ourselves and asking God to reveal any areas in our lives that need improvement. This may be difficult and uncomfortable, but it's the only way to truly grow in our faith. As we continue to invite God to search our lives and allow Him to guide us, we will find ourselves becoming more like Him and living a life that is pleasing to Him.

Reflect and Invite

Set aside some time each day to reflect on your life and invite God to search your heart. Ask Him to reveal any areas that need improvement and to guide you on the path of everlasting life. Make it a daily practice to check in with yourself and invite God to search your heart. Use the guide prayer as a starting point, but make it personal to you and your current situation. Take time to listen to God's guidance and make a plan to work on the areas that need improvement.

Guided Prayer

Dear God, I invite you to search my heart and my life. I ask that you reveal any areas that need improvement and guide me on the path of everlasting life. Help me to acknowledge my flaws and imperfections and to seek your guidance in overcoming them. I trust in your love and guidance. Amen.
